Pregnant Candace Parker on ESPN cover
“This is the first time a pregnant athlete has been on the cover of a men’s sports magazine.” NBA.com reported yesterday. I actually do have a subscription for ESPN the magazine, but have not received this issue yet.
Candace Parker gave the WNBA a new face: Sexy Basketball – and the WNBA slowly starts to use this image too. I am not sure if a pregnant, able to dunk, woman can convince the average US sports guy, to follow the WNBA from now on, but Candace Parker for sure had a big impact on kids, especially girls that look up to her.
I saw Candace during the NBA finals in Los Angeles and attended another game where she played at the Madison Square Garden in New York City. It looked like more people wore her LA Sparks jersey than New York Liberty jerseys.
The father of Candace Parker’s child is Shelden Williams of the Sacramento Kings, who is also married to her. Another connection to the NBA: Candace Parker’s brother plays for the Toronto Raptors: Anthony Parker.
You can just imagine what that kid might be able to do on the basketball court one day …
