Great article that can lead to good discussion. I could go on and on about this issue, but I will keep it nice and short.

1. Every dude in the League has his own goals (or at least should) as to where he wants to position himself in the NBA. For example, I'm pretty sure Kobe sets goals for himself to become one of the greatest (If not the best, & I'm not saying he's the best) players to step on the hardwood. While on the other hand dudes like Louis Williams from the 76'ers (For example) may have goals of just becoming a potential All-Star. Every dude should have some type of goal or inspiration b/c it's obviously hard for some cats to stay motivated after making the type of money that they have worked their whole basketball career for. Those that don't have goals anymore or never did in the first place are in my opinion the players who lack the passion.

2. That leads to #2. I believe that money has a MAJOR factor in the lack of passion that we sometimes see from certain players. I can totally understand that some nights are just not going to be your night ( b/c it is a 82 game season), but some players make it a HABIT to be lazy and act like they just don't give a damn. Prime example, a Houston Rocket employee.

3. Lastly, (This was longer than I wanted it to be lol) I believe that passion relates back to the individual. No matter if you were raised in the "roughest" hood or the "richest" suburb, it all falls back on how HUNGRY you are as a person.

Sure, it would be great if we saw these guys go out there night in and night out and give 110% but the reality of the situation is that there are 82 games in the regular season and basketball is their "job". They are doing this everyday of their lives and sometimes this kind of work can be tedious. I wouldn't go into an office building or anyones place of work and criticize them for not putting enough passion and dedication into stocking shelves or filing their paperwork.

It's more common to see players in the NCAA play with passion and dedication because this is how they are seen and become professional athletes...it's like climbing the proverbial corporate ladder. You pay your dues, work your way to the top and once you get there it is up to you to decide how you want to approach the rest of your career.

I don't think that the NBA guys "don't get it" because if they didn't they would not be where they are today. I just think that this is what they do everyday and when it becomes your job...well, some days you just don't feel like going to work.
